Design And Build Quality
The Edge 60 Pro comes in a dazzling blue color with a nylon-inspired plastic finish that feels like fabric. Other options include wood-like or leather-like textures. The phone has a curved design, with the back and front curving into a thin plastic frame, making it feel light and easy to grip.
Motorola has improved the phone's protection against water and dust. It's not just IP68 rated, but also IP69 rated, meaning it can handle high-pressure water jets. Plus, it meets US military standards for use in tough conditions. There's also a new button for the phone's AI assistant.
Display Quality
The Edge 60 Pro features a curved 6.7-inch OLED screen with a 1220p resolution and a 120 Hz refresh rate. It's protected by Gorilla Glass 7i. While 120 Hz isn't as high as some phones, it's pretty standard and makes the interface feel smooth. The refresh rate can drop to 60 Hz when the phone is idle to save battery.
With 444 pixels per inch (PPI), the screen is sharp and looks good. It supports 10-bit color and HDR10+ video. The screen gets very bright, reaching over 520 nits manually and almost 1,600 nits in auto mode, which is great for outdoor use.
Audio And Storage
The Edge 60 Pro has stereo speakers that are quite loud. The highs are rich, and there's some bass, but vocals could be better. For security, it has a fast and reliable optical under-display fingerprint reader. The phone comes with either 256 GB or 512 GB of fast UFS 4.0 storage, but it doesn't have a slot for a microSD card.
Software And Performance
The phone runs on Motorola's latest Hello UI, based on Android 15. It's a lot like stock Android, with Motorola's extra features organized in the Moto app. You can easily connect the phone to a PC or monitor and even use voice commands. A new feature is Moto AI, which offers AI-based tools and integrates with other AI platforms. Motorola promises three major OS updates and four years of security patches for the Edge 60 Pro.
Under the hood, the Edge 60 Pro uses a new MediaTek Dimensity 8350 Extreme chipset. This chip offers better performance than the previous model's Snapdragon 7 Gen 3, especially for graphics. It also uses faster LPDDR5X RAM, making the phone feel quick and responsive. However, it can get a bit warm during long periods of heavy use.
Battery Life And Charging
Motorola has significantly increased the battery size from 4,500 mAh to 6,000 mAh. This means much better battery life. The Edge 60 Pro scored an excellent 16 hours and 14 minutes in active use, a big jump from the previous model's 12 hours.
Charging speed has been reduced from 125 watts to 90 watts, and the phone doesn't come with a charger. With the right charger, it can go from 0 to 81% in 30 minutes, and a full charge takes 44 minutes. While still fast, it's not as quick as the Edge 50 Pro. Wireless charging is also slower this year, at 15 watts instead of 50.
Camera System
The Edge 60 Pro has a new triple camera setup on the back, with updated main and ultrawide cameras, and a new lens for the zoom camera.
- Main Camera: Daylight photos are great, with lots of detail, natural colors, good contrast, and wide dynamic range. Portraits are excellent, with good subject detection. Two-times digital zoom shots are also good.
- Low Light (Main Camera): Photos are good, with plenty of detail, nice colors, and low noise. Dynamic range is also good.
- Telephoto Camera: Three-times zoom shots are clean and detailed, with similar colors to the main camera. Good in low light too.
- Ultrawide Camera: Daylight photos have good detail and minimal distortion. Colors are close to the other cameras. It can take impressive macro close-ups thanks to autofocus. Struggles a bit in low light, with soft and muddy results.
- Selfie Camera: The 50-megapixel selfie camera no longer has autofocus, but selfies are still good, with accurate skin tones and wide dynamic range.
- Video Quality: The phone can record 4K video at 30 frames per second (fps) with all cameras. Main camera 4K videos look great. Telephoto videos have good detail but lack some contrast. Ultrawide videos have visible noise. Video stabilization works well, and the main camera does an excellent job with video at night.
Conclusion
The Motorola Edge 60 Pro offers a lot to like, with improvements in battery life, water protection, chipset, and storage. It also includes the latest Moto AI features. However, some features, like charging speed, have been downgraded. If fast charging isn't a top priority for you, the Moto Edge 60 Pro is a well-rounded phone worth considering.
